Imagine Dubai. What’s the first thing that comes to mind? The Burj Khalifa piercing the clouds? Huge malls where you could get lost for an entire day? Artificial palm-shaped islands? All of that is true. Dubai is a city of the future, a showcase of luxury and ambition. But sometimes, even amid this whirl of glass and concrete, the soul craves something simple. You want to take off expensive shoes, walk barefoot on the grass, hear the sound of waves rather than the roar of sports car engines.
And you know what? Such a place exists. It’s not a secret spot for millionaires or an exclusive club. It’s a corner of old, cozy Dubai that has somehow been preserved and made even better. We’re talking about Jumeirah Beach Park — a true green oasis where East meets West and the city’s bustle gives way to total relaxation.

The legend’s return: a beloved park gets a second life
Longtime residents of Dubai and those who visited about ten years ago will probably be surprised: “Wait, wasn’t it closed?” And they’d be right. In 2014 the park temporarily ceased operations to make way for a grand project — the construction of the Dubai Water Canal. Many were sad at the time, since it was an iconic spot, almost like a dacha for locals. But Dubai wouldn’t be Dubai if it didn’t know how to turn any construction into an opportunity to make something even cooler.
In 2017 the park didn’t just reopen — it experienced a true rebirth. Now it became part of a new, chic waterfront along the canal. Imagine: on one side you have the azure waters of the Persian Gulf, and on the other — an artificial canal where yachts and tourist boats glide by. The park ended up sandwiched between two waterways, and it only benefited from that. It became even more picturesque, even cozier. It’s a perfect example of how Dubai, while building the future, manages to preserve and improve a piece of its past.

What is Jumeirah Beach Park today? Not just a beach!
Let’s be clear from the start: this is not just a strip of sand with umbrellas. It’s a full-fledged space for life and leisure where everyone can find something to enjoy.
Green zone: breathe deeply
The first thing that strikes you is the abundance of greenery. Tall palm trees, neatly trimmed lawns that beg for a picnic, flower beds that delight the eye even in the hottest season. After the scorching asphalt and the city’s concrete jungle, getting here feels like taking a deep, refreshing breath.
Everything here is designed for comfortable “doing nothing.” Spread a blanket on the grass under the shade of a tree, take out a thermos of tea or a cold lemonade, open a book or simply watch the children play. Around you are similarly relaxed people: families with picnic baskets, couples walking hand in hand, expats doing yoga on the lawn. The atmosphere is pure zen.

Beach idyll: white sand and the “Sail” on the horizon
Of course, the main attraction here is the beach. Impeccably clean, with fine, almost white sand that gently tickles your feet. The entry into the water is gradual, making it a paradise for families with small children. You don’t need to worry about a child stepping into deep water.
But the cherry on top is the view. Right ahead, as if from a postcard, stands the famous sail-shaped hotel Burj Al Arab. Taking a sunset photo here, when the sun paints the sky in orange and violet hues and the silhouette of the “Sail” darkens against it, is a must-do. Your social media will thank you!
Today’s Jumeirah Beach Park isn’t a wild beach. It has everything for comfort: comfortable sunbeds and large umbrellas (for a small fee), freshwater showers to wash off the salt, clean toilets, and changing cabins. Everything is civilized and top-notch, as is customary in Dubai.

What to do besides lying around?
If you’re not a fan of seal-like lounging, the park offers plenty of activities.
- For athletes and active visitors. Along the park and promenade there are dedicated running and cycling paths. The surface is soft, making running a pleasure. Mornings and evenings are full of people keeping fit while enjoying the sea breeze. You can rent a bike and ride along the canal, admiring modern architecture and the boats passing by.
- For food lovers. Forget boring beach snacks. Charming cafés and food trucks are scattered around and near the park. You can have a great coffee, eat ice cream, or enjoy a full meal. But the main delight is having a barbecue. There are specially equipped areas with grills for that. Imagine: an evening, a light sea breeze, the sizzle of meat on the grill, and cheerful company of friends. What could be better?
- For children. For young visitors this place is a true paradise. Several playgrounds with slides, swings, and climbing frames will keep them from getting bored. While the kids run around shrieking with joy, parents can relax nearby on a bench.

Notes to keep in mind
Dubai is a city with its own rules, and even in such a relaxed place you shouldn’t forget them.
- “Women’s day.” On Mondays the park is open only to women and children (boys up to 4 years old). This is a lovely tradition that allows local women and any visiting ladies to relax in the most comfortable and private setting. Men are not allowed in on that day, so plan your visit accordingly.
- Symbolic fee. Entrance to the park is paid, but the price is purely symbolic — about 5 dirhams (a little over a dollar). It’s a small fee for perfect cleanliness, safety, and well-maintained grounds.
- Dress code. Despite the beach atmosphere, don’t forget you’re in a Muslim country. Walking around the park in a bikini is not welcomed. On the beach — sure, but once you step off the sand onto the grass, it’s better to put on a pareo, t-shirt, or a light dress.
Jumeirah Beach Park is not just a point on the map. It’s a mood. It’s an opportunity to see another Dubai — not glossy and pretentious, but cozy, green, and soulful. It’s a place where skyscrapers on the horizon only remind you that life is buzzing out there, while here and now you can simply stop, exhale, and enjoy the moment. If you’re tired of tourist hustle and want to feel a bit like a local in this amazing city — this is definitely the place to go.
